CHAOS Industries is a defense technology company founded in 2022 and backed by $1 billion in funding from top-tier investors including 8VC, Accel, and Valor Equity Partners. The company develops advanced electromagnetic warfare and spectrum sensing systems powered by Coherent Distributed Networks (CDN™) technology, serving warfighters, commercial air operators, and border protection teams.
You will join the Spectrum Sensing Team as a Staff RF Signal Processing Engineer, contributing to the development of advanced digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms that transform radar systems into distributed spectrum sensing systems capable of detecting, classifying, and geolocating RF emissions. This is a high-impact technical role with direct influence on cutting-edge sensing technology and real-world tactical applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and refine advanced DSP algorithms for RF signal detection, identification, and tracking
- Integrate and test signal processing software with RF/SDR hardware and host processing platforms
- Collaborate with the Spectrum Sensing Team on algorithm development, modeling, and software integration
- Execute field demonstrations and validate technology in operational environments
- Work cross-functionally with Business Development, Production, and other Engineering teams
- Document technical details and present findings to stakeholders
The role requires on-site presence 3–5 days per week at either the Hawthorne, CA or Washington, D.C. office, with periodic travel up to 30%. You will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment on problems at the forefront of defense technology.
Minimum Requirements:
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related field
- 5+ years of relevant development experience
- Hands-on experience with RF sensing systems (active or passive) and advanced signal processing techniques
- Proficiency working with recorded I/Q data and generating synthetic I/Q data
- Strong theoretical understanding and practical application of signal processing techniques (FFT analysis, matched filtering, cyclostationary analysis)
- Proficiency in Python, C++, or MATLAB for algorithm development and code integration
- Experience with software-defined radios (SDR) and associated signal processing toolkits
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to document technical details clearly
- U.S. citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance
Preferred Requirements:
- M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related field
- Current U.S. security clearance
- Expertise in cyclostationary signal processing
- Demonstrated experience identifying commercial and non-commercial communication waveforms
- Expertise in electromagnetic spectrum sensing and classification techniques (including machine learning for signal classification)
- Experience implementing signal processing algorithms for tactical applications
- Experience implementing signal processing algorithms on RFSOC hardware
- Familiarity with agile development tools (JIRA, Confluence)
- Prior experience in DoD, military, or government environments in related technical roles
