Salary: USD 165,000 - 192,500 / annual
Lunar Energy is seeking a Staff Reliability Engineer to ensure product reliability across the full lifecycle of home energy systems. This is a technical leadership role focused on power electronics and battery systems reliability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineering teams during hardware design to establish component and system-level reliability targets for power electronics and battery systems
- Provide Design for Reliability (DfR) inputs during new product development cycles
- Drive Design Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (DFMEA) to identify performance risks and implement mitigation strategies
- Develop Accelerated Life Testing (ALT) reliability test plans for components and subsystems using physics-of-failure methodology
- Monitor field reliability performance metrics including part replacements, customer complaints, and fault codes; identify continuous improvement opportunities
- Conduct failure analysis on test and field returns to determine root cause and drive corrective actions
- Collaborate with finance on warranty program insights
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent
- Proven track record solving complex power electronics reliability failures
- Working knowledge of power converter topologies (inverters, buck-boost converters, etc.)
- Deep understanding of physics of failure and failure mechanisms for PCBAs and power electronics components (MOSFETs, capacitors, inductors)
- Experience with failure analysis techniques (optical microscopy, SEM, CSAM, X-ray, cross-sectioning, EDX)
- Knowledge of accelerated life testing models and governing equations for PCBAs, battery storage, and mechanical structures
- Understanding of reliability statistics
