Valon is building an AI-native operating system for regulated finance, starting with mortgage servicing. As a Series C company backed by a16z, Valon has taken a unique approach: rather than building on legacy systems, the company operates its own mortgage servicing business managing $110+ billion in loans. This deep operational understanding informs the development of ValonOS, a unified platform designed for the AI era where everything flows through one system with rich data, enabling AI agents to continuously improve operations. You will lead end-to-end design for the Product Infrastructure team, which is responsible for transforming Valon's in-house mortgage servicing platform into a scalable, flexible SaaS product. Your work will establish the core foundations, reusable patterns, and design systems that empower other product teams to move faster and deliver higher quality. Key responsibilities include: leading design of foundational platform capabilities and design systems; contributing to product strategy with a user-centered perspective; driving deep user understanding through quantitative and qualitative research across mortgage servicing operators, deployment strategists, and technical teams; partnering with cross-functional teams to identify shared requirements and deliver generalized tools; and mentoring designers and partners to foster collaboration and raise the bar for product quality. You'll work in a fast-paced startup environment where design goes beyond creating products—it's about rebuilding trust in the mortgage industry by simplifying complexity, empowering confident decision-making, and delivering peace of mind. The role requires someone who excels in execution, thrives in ambiguity, moves with urgency, and leads by example. Required: 3+ years of product design experience, preferably in D2C fintech; a portfolio demonstrating strong design fundamentals, systems thinking, and user-centered problem solving; track record of shipping end-to-end product experiences; ability to navigate ambiguity with confidence; excellent communication and organizational skills. Bonus: familiarity with LLM/generative AI tools, experience designing workflows or B2B SaaS products, and background in user research and data-driven design.
