Datadog is seeking a Staff Product Designer to lead design for Modern Compute, with initial focus on Containers Autoscaling. The role involves designing end-to-end product experiences that help engineering teams make better decisions about infrastructure resource allocation in complex environments like Kubernetes and serverless.
You will define product direction from early problem framing through shipped product, partnering closely with product and engineering leadership. The work spans how customers get started with autoscaling, understand recommendations, evaluate value, and safely apply changes across environments. You'll design clear, trustworthy experiences for engineers making high-stakes decisions about infrastructure reliability, performance, and cost—simplifying complex technical concepts while preserving the detail and control expert users need.
Key responsibilities include leading end-to-end design for Modern Compute's autoscaling product, helping define evolving product direction, designing for complex technical workflows, working across product and engineering teams to identify problems and connect work, setting high standards for interaction and visual design including complex states and data-heavy workflows, creating reusable patterns for consistency across Modern Compute and broader Datadog, mentoring other designers, and designing and building realistic prototypes using coding agents.
You bring 10+ years designing complex web-based products at Staff level or comparable scope, with exceptional craft in interaction and visual design for dense, technical, or data-heavy experiences. You've led ambiguous product work where your involvement changed outcomes, can simplify complex systems for expert users, communicate complex ideas clearly, think beyond individual features to create systems and patterns, balance long-term direction with hands-on execution, and actively mentor other designers.
Bonus experience includes infrastructure, observability, cloud, or developer tools design; familiarity with Kubernetes, containers, autoscaling, GitOps, or YAML; designing for SREs, platform engineers, or application developers; working across multi-product SaaS platforms; or creating design patterns adopted by multiple teams.
