Rec is reimagining how the world plays and participates in community by using AI to modernize the $3T global recreation industry. The platform spans programs, facilities, memberships, payments, and admin tools that recreation organizations use to run their entire business.
As Staff Product Designer, you'll own design for the platform side of the product end-to-end. You'll take ambiguous, messy operational problems—like confusing facility booking flows or unclear instructor workflows—and transform them into simple, coherent experiences for the humans running rec centers, leagues, and facilities.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own features from research through high-fidelity design, spec writing, engineering handoff, and QA
- Hold the full platform model in your head (programs, facilities, memberships, payments) and maintain coherence as the product scales
- Define v1 scope for fuzzy, undefined problems, deciding what's in and what's deliberately left out
- Prioritize shipping rough versions in production over polished designs in Figma
- Use AI tools as part of your everyday workflow—prototyping in code, generating variations, drafting copy, synthesizing research—while applying strong design judgment
- Work closely with engineering and the founding team in a small, fast-moving environment
You'll succeed if you have strong systems thinking for complex, multi-object domains; a track record of owning features end-to-end; comfort operating without specs; bias toward shipping with good judgment; fluency with AI tools paired with taste; and genuine interest in Rec's mission.
The founding team includes early Uber employees who later led teams at The Athletic and MasterClass. The broader team brings experience from Google, Microsoft, Strava, Hipcamp, and Airbnb.
