Mercury is seeking a Senior Design Manager to lead the Growth Design team. This role sits at the intersection of product design, user experience, and business growth—managing designers across Conversion, Activation, and Virality initiatives. You will lead and develop a team of designers, partnering closely with Product and Engineering leadership to identify high-leverage opportunities and translate them into compelling customer experiences. The scope spans Mercury's entire customer journey: from web discovery and conversion through activation, virality, and ongoing customer experience. Key responsibilities include: - Leading and coaching a team of product and growth designers, providing context, feedback, and development opportunities - Collaborating with Product and Engineering to shape Growth strategy and identify where design can have the greatest impact - Establishing a culture of experimentation, using customer insights and business results to inform decisions - Raising the quality bar across Mercury's public web presence, conversion funnels, activation flows, and virality loops - Creating clarity in an ambiguous problem space by helping teams prioritize, set direction, and define excellence - Building scalable systems and operating practices that enable rapid iteration without sacrificing craft or creativity - Growing the team thoughtfully, identifying skill gaps and maintaining high hiring standards Ideal candidates bring: - Proven experience leading and developing high-performing product or growth designers - A track record of using design to drive measurable business outcomes, with deep understanding of experimentation and growth mechanics - Strong design thinking, visual judgment, and the ability to move fluidly between strategic vision and execution details - Comfort with multiple leadership modes: strategic partner, critical reviewer, organizational leader, and hands-on contributor - Genuine investment in people development, with ability to set high standards and provide direct, thoughtful feedback - Curiosity about human behavior and customer psychology as the foundation for growth ideas - Ability to operate independently in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment Background doesn't require "Growth" in the title—excellent candidates may come from product design, consumer products, commerce, or similar domains where design quality and business performance are tightly linked.
