Outsmart is an early-stage, venture-backed edtech startup reimagining higher education through AI. Backed by $38M from top-tier VCs including Khosla Ventures, Forerunner, and DST Global, the company is led by former Duolingo executives and includes Emmy Award winners on the founding team. The company has already achieved significant traction with 1–5 million weekly organic social views. As Staff Product Designer, you'll lead design for major product areas of the Outsmart student experience, working closely with Product, Engineering, and leadership. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll spend most of your time designing, prototyping, and shipping, while also mentoring other designers and raising the quality bar across the design team. Key responsibilities include: leading end-to-end design for major product areas; turning ambiguous problems into clear strategies, flows, and polished experiences; partnering closely with Product and Engineering from exploration through launch; mentoring and managing designers; establishing design processes that enable rapid iteration without sacrificing quality; using research, data, and prototyping to inform decisions; evolving the design system and product language; and helping grow the design team as the company scales. You'll need 8+ years of product design experience with significant consumer-facing digital product work, previous experience managing product designers, and a strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional product thinking and interaction design. You should be deeply hands-on with Figma and prototyping, comfortable navigating technical and business constraints, and experienced shipping products at meaningful scale. Experience with AI tools, consumer education, social, or gaming products is a bonus. The role requires strong collaboration skills, high craft standards paired with shipping judgment, and a low-ego approach to leadership and feedback.
