ICEYE is seeking a Staff Product Designer to build a design system from the ground up for a rapidly scaling aerospace and satellite intelligence company. The role is based in Espoo, Finland (hybrid, 3 days/week in office) and reports to the Director of Product Design.
The core challenge: ICEYE has shipped products fast under real pressure, resulting in inconsistent design patterns, spacing conventions, and component implementations across the product suite. Your mission is to establish a cohesive design system that becomes the default way teams build, starting with a Figma library and design playbook, evolving into tokenized architecture and documented code components.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Building a Figma library and shared design foundations that give teams defaults instead of decisions
- Developing token architecture and code-based components with documentation that scales
- Co-designing with frontend engineers in code repositories, reviewing PRs, and prototyping in branches
- Driving adoption across product teams through office hours, migration support, and stakeholder alignment
- Setting and maintaining craft standards across the design domain at the pixel level
- Leveraging AI tools for component documentation, variant generation, token maintenance, and migration work
- Holding accountability for adoption metrics, consistency, shipped UI quality, and team velocity
- Working across a networked organization including designers in other domains, brand/marketing, and customers
You must have:
- Proven experience taking a design system from 0-to-1 in a messy, unconvinced organization
- Fluency in code (React, CSS, running repos locally, opening PRs) sufficient to hold technical conversations
- Ability to influence without direct authority across teams with competing roadmaps
- Exceptional craft skills in layout systems, typography, color, and visual hierarchy for complex professional interfaces
- A substantive, practiced point of view on AI in design work (not just sentiment)
- End-to-end UX ownership experience on complex professional products
This is a hands-on, opinionated role with real ownership and minimal inherited process. You'll raise the craft bar across the organization while building interfaces that help detect flooded neighborhoods and monitor critical infrastructure from space.
