Handshake is a career network serving 20 million knowledge workers, 1,600 educational institutions, and 1 million employers—including all Fortune 50 companies and major AI labs. The company tripled ARR in 2025 and is positioned at the intersection of talent and opportunity in the AI economy.
As a Staff Product Designer on the Student Experience team, you will shape how millions of students discover jobs, build careers, and navigate critical life transitions. You'll own end-to-end design across job discovery and matching, resume building, interview prep, and career planning—increasingly powered by an AI agent that takes meaningful action on students' behalf.
Key responsibilities include partnering with product, engineering, applied AI, data science, and career services teams to define problems and shape product strategy. You'll own design from concept through post-launch iteration: user flows, interaction patterns, prototypes, high-fidelity mocks, and implementation collaboration. You'll tackle novel design challenges at the frontier of agentic UX—representing agent reasoning, building trust and control, handling uncertainty, and determining when to hand off between AI and human judgment.
You'll rapidly iterate through wireframes, prototypes, and experiments to validate interaction models and optimize for real career outcomes. You'll design how new capabilities are introduced, explained, and trusted by students, obsessing over craft while maintaining focus on student outcomes and wellbeing.
Required: 7+ years of product design experience building consumer-facing products at scale; track record owning complex, end-to-end product experiences; strong visual and interaction design expertise with proven shipping impact; ability to communicate design decisions and tradeoffs clearly; experience designing for trust, transparency, and control; comfort with qualitative and quantitative insights; highly collaborative mindset; design-led thinking; impact-driven prioritization; hands-on ownership; and deep motivation for Handshake's mission.
Bonus experience includes designing agent-based or copilot products, familiarity with career services or higher education, background in high-stakes decision design (finance, health, hiring), and passion for early-career professionals and AI's role in the future of work.
