Gray Swan AI is building AI safety and security infrastructure for frontier AI labs. The company evaluates AI models, develops real-time threat detection systems, and creates adaptive adversarial red teaming agents. With ~50 employees and strong funding, Gray Swan is growing rapidly and directly influencing how AI systems are deployed at scale. As Staff Product Designer, you'll lead design for Gray Swan's Arena product—a platform for testing, monitoring, and securing AI systems. This is a high-ownership role requiring end-to-end ownership from concept through production. You'll translate complex technical workflows into intuitive, trustworthy user experiences across web and mobile, balancing the needs of technical users with playful, engaging design. Key responsibilities include designing and iterating on Arena's UI, owning work from early sketches to production-ready specs, building and maintaining design systems and component libraries, and collaborating cross-functionally with product, engineering, ML research, and go-to-market teams. You'll also contribute to ad hoc design needs as the team scales. You bring 6+ years of professional product UI/UX design experience, ideally with gamified consumer apps, tooling, or chat interfaces. You're proficient in modern design and prototyping tools, grounded in user-centered design principles and usability testing, and detail-oriented with strong design systems expertise. Bonus experience includes early-stage startup work, understanding of AI safety principles, or front-end development skills. You thrive in high-impact environments where your work directly shapes customer experience and product direction. You're collaborative, mission-focused, and comfortable leading design initiatives as the company scales. The role offers competitive compensation ($205k–$255k plus performance bonus and equity), comprehensive benefits (401k matching, 28 days PTO, health/dental/vision), catered lunches at the Pittsburgh office, flexible work arrangements, and visa sponsorship for exceptional candidates.
