Checkout.com is a global fintech platform powering over 10 billion transactions yearly for companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony. You'll join a 30+ person Design organization embedded in Product Design, working across Acquiring (the product infrastructure for merchant payment acceptance and processing) and Checkout.com's cross-pillar design system.
In this Staff-level role, you'll balance two connected responsibilities: lead end-to-end design for Acquiring while evolving the company's design system. You'll report to the Director of Enterprise Product Design and work from the London office three days per week in a hybrid arrangement.
Key responsibilities include leading design for Acquiring with full ownership, mentoring designers, and raising craft quality through critique and guidance. You'll evolve the design system across products and surfaces (dashboard, mobile, and beyond), partnering with Product and Engineering to apply the system to real product needs and implementation constraints. You'll improve how teams move from design intent to production, ensuring the design system scales to help teams deliver consistent, high-quality experiences across products and new initiatives.
Success means Acquiring has consistent coverage and craft quality with designers set up to execute independently, the design system scales effectively across the organization, and the design team can ship experiences end-to-end empowered by the design system and AI tooling.
You'll need staff-level product design scope or equivalent—the ability to set direction without formal authority and raise quality through critique and mentoring. Exceptional product craft across interaction, visual design, prototyping, and shipped experiences is essential. You must own complex product work, partnering closely with Product and Engineering from problem to delivery. Experience shaping and evolving a production design system is required, along with technical fluency to collaborate with Engineering on implementation constraints and design-to-development workflows (this is not a front-end engineering role). You should have shipped experience using AI-assisted design or development workflows such as Claude Code or Cursor.
Nice-to-have experience includes payments, fintech, or B2B SaaS backgrounds, complex enterprise or platform product work, and experience leading Design System guilds or improving design-to-development quality across desktop and mobile.
