Firestorm is building expeditionary defense manufacturing and autonomous systems, including modular unmanned aircraft and deployable microfactories (xCell) designed for rapid deployment at the point of need. The company develops Crucible, a software platform that manages a distributed manufacturing network spanning cloud, factory, edge, and air-gapped environments. As Staff Platform Security Engineer, you will own security architecture and implementation across Firestorm's software infrastructure and manufacturing network. This is a hands-on technical role requiring direct code contribution and infrastructure work, not policy-only responsibilities. Key responsibilities include: driving platform security execution from design through implementation; building authentication, authorization, secrets management, and data protection into product and infrastructure; hardening Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, Linux systems, and air-gapped deployments; designing identity and trust systems for users, services, workloads, and devices across connected and disconnected environments; improving software supply chain security including dependency management, artifact integrity, signing, and provenance; threat modeling systems and reviewing designs to identify and remediate vulnerabilities; automating security controls into CI/CD and development workflows; and supporting accreditation processes (ATO, RMF) by translating security requirements into implemented controls and technical evidence. You will work directly with software and infrastructure engineering teams to solve security problems embedded in the product and deployment architecture. The role requires deep expertise in cloud security, Kubernetes, Linux, networking, identity and access management, PKI, and security automation. Experience with air-gapped systems, NIST 800-53, regulated cloud environments (AWS GovCloud), and defense/aerospace industry is highly valued. U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance are required. Minimum 8+ years of security engineering, platform security, product security, or cloud security experience with a proven track record. Strong software engineering skills with direct production code contributions are essential.
