Okta is seeking a Staff Identity Engineer to serve as a technical authority within the internal Identity and Access Management (IAM) team. This role bridges internal stakeholders and product engineering teams, championing Okta's "Customer Zero" philosophy by deploying cutting-edge identity features internally before global release.
You will own the full lifecycle of enterprise identity infrastructure, including policy design, adaptive multi-factor authentication (MFA), and federation protocols (SAML, OIDC). You'll architect and enforce cloud IAM guardrails across AWS, GCP, and Azure, building API-based automation pipelines for complex workflows. A key focus is securing AI adoption by governing AI agents, machine identities, and service-to-service authentication within the enterprise identity layer.
As a technical leader, you will mentor engineers, conduct primary design reviews, and establish IAM standards across the organization. You'll drive automation-first initiatives to eliminate inefficiencies and partner with Security, Audit, and Compliance teams to ensure identity controls natively meet enterprise frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, FedRAMP). You'll also collaborate cross-functionally to establish operational KPIs and translate technical milestones into leadership updates.
Required qualifications include 4+ years of hands-on enterprise IAM design and implementation, deep expertise in Okta Identity Engine (OIE), Directory Integrations, Advanced Policies, Workflows, and Platform APIs. You need advanced knowledge of modern authentication standards (OIDC, OAuth 2.0, SAML 2.0) and phishing-resistant MFA (FIDO2/WebAuthn, Passkeys). Practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Okta Workflows), multi-cloud IAM guardrails, session lifecycle security, token management, and continuous access evaluations is essential. Demonstrated mentorship experience and a strong automation-first mindset are required.
