Element Biosciences is seeking an experienced Staff Commodity Manager, Strategic Sourcing to develop and execute strategic sourcing roadmaps for critical commodities spanning life sciences mechanical assemblies, electronics, and specialized materials. This role combines deep commodity expertise with strategic execution across the full product lifecycle—from development through commercialization.
Key responsibilities include developing multi-year strategic sourcing roadmaps for assigned commodity families aligned with product development timelines and COGS targets; defining and implementing sourcing governance frameworks for New Product Introduction (NPI) and sustaining programs; leading supplier selection, qualification, and onboarding activities for direct materials and contract manufacturing partners; and influencing design-for-cost and design-for-manufacturability early in the R&D cycle.
You will evaluate suppliers for technical capability, manufacturability, cost efficiency, and readiness across NPI phases, serving as the primary technical liaison between internal stakeholders and supplier engineering teams. The role involves conducting detailed cost breakdowns and total-landed-cost modeling using should-cost analysis to drive COGS optimization and cost avoidance initiatives. You will develop and maintain supplier scorecards, lead Quarterly Business Reviews, and track sourcing KPIs including cost, quality, delivery, and supply chain resilience.
Additional responsibilities include strengthening supply chain resilience through alternate source qualification and diversification strategies; managing geopolitical and tariff-related risks; leading contract negotiations on pricing, payment terms, and supply continuity commitments; and ensuring supplier compliance with industry standards including ISO 13485, RoHS, REACH, and GMP.
You will collaborate closely with R&D, Process Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Manufacturing to align sourcing strategies with technical and business objectives. This is a daily on-site role at Element Biosciences' San Diego headquarters, reporting to the Director, Strategic Sourcing.
