Salary: USD 151,000 - 191,000 / annual

Sila Nanotechnologies is a next-generation battery materials company focused on powering the world's transition to clean energy. The company engineers and manufactures breakthrough battery materials that significantly increase energy density while reducing size and weight, enabling smaller, more powerful batteries for consumer devices and electric vehicles. As a Staff Battery Engineer, you will be an integral member of the Battery Engineering team responsible for advancing electrode and cell products from prototype through NPI to commercialization. This is a hands-on, technical role requiring deep expertise across all lithium-ion battery components and processes. Key responsibilities include: - Scaling up electrodes and executing comprehensive experiments in multilayer pouch full cells to validate performance, safety, and customer requirements - Managing technical work across slurry and coating, electrolyte optimization, cell design and integration, electrochemical testing, and battery safety - Collaborating with contract manufacturing partners to transfer pilot-line technology into mass production - Translating electrode and cell design learnings across different cell form factors using modeling and practical analysis - Driving cross-functional technical alignment between internal teams, external partners, and customers - Conducting failure analysis on prototype and production cells to identify root causes - Applying advanced data analysis, statistical methods, and modeling to interpret results and inform design iterations - Developing new test methods and techniques to detect downstream challenges early - Communicating technical plans and results to stakeholders and supporting customer-facing documentation You bring 7+ years of battery or related field experience (fewer years acceptable with advanced degree), with strong background in lithium-ion battery processes including slurry preparation, coating, cell design, and cell teardown. You have hands-on pilot-scale electrode scale-up and cell design experience, with familiarity of failure mechanisms. You are proficient with data analysis tools (JMP, Python, databases), excel at planning and executing multiple simultaneous projects, and demonstrate exceptional communication skills with both internal groups and external customers. Mandarin, Korean, or Japanese language fluency is a plus. You understand lab safety best practices and are comfortable with PPE requirements including respirator fit testing. The role involves up to 25% domestic and international travel and requires working in a laboratory environment with appropriate safety equipment.
