Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to help scale its observability platform as it transforms into a multi-tenant, SaaS-first architecture. The role focuses on refactoring Grafana's core systems to support an app platform where open-source and proprietary applications can integrate directly with dashboards, alerts, incidents, and telemetry.
You will own significant technical scope across the platform, coding new features, authoring design documents, shaping roadmap priorities, and mentoring team members. Key responsibilities include iteratively improving systems based on production insights, collaborating across teams to ensure safe rollout of changes to millions of users, and participating in on-call rotations (weekday 12h x 5d and weekend 24h x 2d).
The ideal candidate has deep experience operating SaaS platforms at scale, with hands-on knowledge of distributed systems challenges: scalability, multi-tenancy, data isolation, and high availability. You should be comfortable with Go (or eager to learn it), excel at written and verbal communication, and thrive in cross-functional environments where you balance pragmatism with quality. Strong operational mindset is essential—you've built and operated the software you've shipped.
Grafana Labs is a 100% remote, 1,600+ person company backed by Sequoia, Lightspeed, and other leading investors. The company serves 7,000+ customers including Anthropic, Bloomberg, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Salesforce. You'll have access to modern AI coding assistants and frontier models as part of your daily workflow, with company-funded budgets to accelerate development without friction.
