Virta Health is seeking a Staff Actuary to lead actuarial strategy and financial modeling for a mission-driven healthtech company focused on reversing metabolic disease. This is a highly visible, hands-on role sitting within the Commercial Analytics team, positioned to connect Virta's clinical outcomes with financial value delivered to clients. Key responsibilities include owning Virta's actuarial and financial value strategy by evolving core savings, ROI, and actuarial methodologies using medical and pharmacy claims data. You'll design performance guarantees and risk arrangements that balance compelling client value with responsible financial risk for Virta. The role requires partnering closely with Commercial Leadership, Product Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, and Executive Leadership to bring actuarial perspective to new products, pricing, and go-to-market strategies. You'll serve as Virta's senior actuarial authority in strategic sales, renewal, and client conversations, clearly communicating economic value to sophisticated audiences including employers, health plans, consultants, and actuaries. The role involves evaluating emerging healthcare trends and their financial implications, including changing utilization patterns, pharmacy economics, and GLP-1 market dynamics. Additionally, you'll build enterprise standards for reusable models, methodologies, and tools to make actuarial expertise accessible across Virta and reduce reliance on one-off analyses. You'll establish rigorous approaches to financial modeling, ensuring Virta's actuarial claims and methodologies are transparent, defensible, and evidence-grounded. Mentoring and developing actuarial talent is also a key component, serving as a technical mentor and trusted resource for team members. Required qualifications include FSA or ASA designation with 12+ years of healthcare actuarial work, healthcare economics, consulting, payer strategy, or employer benefits experience. Deep expertise with medical and pharmacy claims data, strong SQL skills, and ability to independently navigate complex healthcare datasets are essential. An AI-forward mindset and commercial judgment to translate complex analyses into business recommendations are critical.
