equipifi, a fast-growing SaaS fintech founded in Scottsdale, Arizona, is building the credit infrastructure for modern banking by powering financial institutions with flexible financing solutions embedded in their digital banking experience. The company is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its accounting team as the second member, working alongside Alison Byers, the Controller.
In this high-autonomy role, you will own the full accounting engine, including general accounting, AP/AR, payroll, sales tax, journal entries, reconciliations, and monthly close processes. You'll be responsible for running day-to-day accounting operations while maintaining accuracy, timeliness, and audit readiness. This includes reviewing credit card charges in Ramp, processing payroll, preparing journal entries, and catching details in reconciliations.
Beyond execution, you'll bring a critical eye to the accounting function. You'll question manual or inefficient processes, identify opportunities to leverage AI and automation, and help shape how the accounting function scales as the company grows. This is not a checklist role—you'll actively participate in iterating and improving how the team operates.
You should have 4+ years of accounting experience with a broad, generalist background across the full accounting function, not just a narrow specialty. Public accounting or audit experience is a significant plus, as it demonstrates the ability to question assumptions and maintain high standards. Payroll processing experience is helpful but not required. Familiarity with GL systems (QuickBooks), AP automation tools (Ramp, Brex), and payroll platforms (Rippling) is valuable.
The ideal candidate has a startup mentality—comfortable with ambiguity, ready to build processes rather than just follow them, and willing to ask thoughtful questions. You'll report directly to the Controller and work cross-functionally with the entire equipifi team. The company offers competitive compensation with stock options, unlimited PTO, flexible hybrid work, 401(k) matching, comprehensive health insurance, and disability/life insurance coverage.
