ServiceNow is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Workflow Data Fabric and Integration Hub team in Hyderabad. This is a backend-focused role owning significant components end-to-end, driving technical design for integration and protocol capabilities used by thousands of customers, and raising the engineering bar for the team.
You will own a feature area or component end-to-end, including technical direction, design, build, test, documentation, release, and post-release health. Key responsibilities include authoring and reviewing design documents for integration and protocol interfaces that customers can extend and customize; defining versioning and backward compatibility strategy for public contracts; designing for failure and scale with explicit failure modes; leading investigation of complex, escalated customer integration failures spanning the platform, network, and remote systems; identifying and paying down technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and reliability risks; mentoring IC1 and IC2 engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and pairing; and collaborating with product management, UX, quality engineering, and adjacent platform teams.
The role requires deep expertise in backend systems, distributed systems design, API design, security protocols, and observability. You will work with technologies including Java or JavaScript/Node.js, REST/SOAP APIs, OAuth 2.0, JWT, mTLS, SQL and data modeling, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and ServiceNow platform scripting (Glide APIs, Script Includes, Business Rules, Scripted REST APIs, Flow Designer).
Priority "good to have" skills include protocol-level work (JSON-RPC, WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, streaming connections), Kubernetes deployment (AWS EKS, Azure AKS, Google GKE), Model Context Protocol (MCP), tool/function calling, agent-facing API design, JDBC/ODBC drivers, platform/developer-facing product experience, and React or comparable frontend frameworks.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of owning backend systems or services in production
- Expert-level Java or JavaScript/Node.js with strong computer science fundamentals (concurrency, memory management, performance profiling)
- Demonstrated experience designing, consuming, and debugging integrations against third-party systems, including handling undocumented or inconsistent behavior
- Strong working knowledge of OAuth 2.0, JWT, mutual TLS, and API key authentication flows, and security trade-offs between them
- Experience designing APIs or extension points with backward compatibility and versioning requirements
- Proven debugging and root-cause analysis across system boundaries in production environments
- Data modeling, SQL, and query optimization for large datasets
- Automated testing (unit, integration, contract, performance) as part of own delivery; experience improving test strategy for a team
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical design discussions
- Agile, sprint-based development experience
- Clear written communication, including design documents and technical decision records
- ServiceNow platform scripting or ability to ramp quickly on Glide APIs, Script Includes, Business Rules, Scripted REST APIs, and Flow Designer spoke development
