You will serve as Senior Material Researcher, owning complex material and product questions that require expert judgment and deep domain knowledge. This role combines hands-on catalog work with research, category development, and standards improvement—shaping how entire material categories are structured and specified across the marketplace.
Key responsibilities include:
- Resolving complex brand and product updates, adding intelligence that makes records more useful to designers and architects
- Leading or supporting new category onboarding, defining attributes, controlled vocabularies, and hierarchy placement
- Researching emerging materials, standards, and designer expectations, translating findings into practical recommendations on taxonomy and terminology
- Investigating search and discovery problems where product data may be contributing
- Proposing catalog standard improvements and identifying recurring patterns that should become broader enhancements
- Documenting reasoning and evidence on non-obvious decisions to make knowledge reusable across the team
- Coaching peers and reviewing complex work without formal people management, escalating cross-category decisions
You bring deep expertise in architectural materials, building products, interior products, or materials research. You excel at researching incomplete or conflicting information and reaching defensible conclusions. You understand how designers and architects evaluate, compare, and specify materials. You think structurally about categories, attributes, and how product data supports discovery. You're comfortable working directly in catalog systems and using tooling as part of research workflows. You write clearly to explain decisions, supporting evidence, and remaining uncertainty. You work independently on complex topics while recognizing when issues extend beyond your assigned category.
Particularly valuable: background in architecture, interior design, material libraries, specification, or manufacturer product/technical teams; experience with PIM, product catalogs, faceted search, or structured product content; depth in at least one material domain with ability to learn unfamiliar ones quickly; mentoring peers or leading research workstreams without formal management.
