Thumbtack is a marketplace platform that helps millions of homeowners care for their homes by connecting them with local service professionals. The company operates a two-sided marketplace with 300,000+ service providers and serves customers across every US county.
As Senior Manager of Partnerships and Special Projects Business Finance, you will own the financial strategy and frameworks that power Thumbtack's partnership growth initiatives. This is a strategic finance role focused on marketplace economics, deal structure, and investment decision-making rather than traditional accounting or reporting.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and evolve the partnership financial framework, including valuation models, payback period analysis, scenario planning, and revenue-share structures that enable sustainable growth
- Build reporting infrastructure and KPI dashboards to track partnership ROI, hold cross-functional teams accountable to financial commitments, and identify performance improvement opportunities
- Create business cases for major partnership investments, pricing strategies, supply acquisition, and demand generation initiatives
- Support annual planning and quarterly business reviews by connecting partnership strategy to company financial goals and resource allocation
- Develop executive narratives that explain marketplace performance, investment tradeoffs, risks, and opportunities with clear recommendations
- Collaborate with Analytics and Data Science teams to build decision tools that give leaders visibility into partnership health and investment performance
- Lead special projects (approximately 25% of role) focused on scalable financial frameworks that maintain healthy supply-and-demand dynamics in the marketplace
You'll work cross-functionally with Product, Marketing, Operations, Sales, and Finance leadership to evaluate growth opportunities and scale partnerships profitably. The role requires moving beyond reporting into business architecture, deal economics, and investment strategy.
Required qualifications: 6+ years in strategic finance, FP&A, marketplace strategy, business operations, corporate strategy, consulting, or analytics. Strong financial modeling expertise including driver-based models, cohort analysis, unit economics, LTV/CAC, contribution margin, ROI analysis, and scenario planning. Deep understanding of marketplace dynamics including supply-demand balance, liquidity, matching, utilization, pricing, and monetization. Excellent communication skills to translate complex analysis into actionable recommendations for senior stakeholders. SQL, BI tools, or data visualization experience preferred.
