Quizlet is a $1B+ learning platform used by two-thirds of U.S. high school students and half of college students, powering over 1 billion learning interactions each week. The company blends cognitive science with machine learning to personalize learning experiences for students, professionals, and lifelong learners.
As Senior Director of Product, Growth & Monetization, you will own the vision, strategy, and business outcomes for how Quizlet grows its learner base and converts engagement into durable revenue. You will shape company-level product strategy and make investment decisions across acquisition, engagement, advertising, subscriptions, and payments based on their contribution to long-term learner and business value.
Key responsibilities include:
- Setting a unified growth and monetization strategy with a multi-year vision and roadmap across the portfolio, prioritizing markets and audiences using cohort retention, lifetime value, and revenue economics.
- Growing a valuable free learner base by leading the free experience, activation, engagement, and growth loops, and guiding internationalization and market expansion.
- Building an effective advertising experience by partnering with Ads Revenue Operations and Engineering to grow ads revenue while balancing ad yield and ad load with study quality and learner retention.
- Owning the subscription lifecycle, including pricing, packaging, paywalls, trials, paid conversion, renewal, and cancellation experiences.
- Strengthening payments as a specialized capability, leading a dedicated payments roadmap spanning checkout, payment methods, authorization, recurring billing, and failed-payment recovery.
- Making portfolio tradeoffs explicit by establishing shared measures of durable growth and evaluating cannibalization and longer-term cohort effects.
- Building an organization that can scale by hiring, coaching, and developing PMs and product leads, clarifying ownership, and anticipating capability needs 12–18 months ahead.
- Driving alignment and execution by partnering with senior leaders on resources and company priorities, coaching teams to own their roadmaps, and using rigorous experiments to resolve uncertainty.
You will develop a team of PMs and product leaders, shape the organization, and partner with Engineering, Design, Data Science, Marketing, Finance, and Ads Revenue Operations. You will align teams around shared goals and resolve tradeoffs between near-term revenue and future growth.
The role is hybrid in the San Francisco office, requiring presence at least two days per week (Wednesday and Thursday).
REQUIREMENTS:
- 10+ years in product management, including substantial experience leading teams and developing senior PMs or in a scaled consumer business.
- A record of shaping company-level product strategy and delivering measurable growth and revenue outcomes across a portfolio, with the ability to set direction, allocate resources, and make decisions with significant financial consequences.
- Deep experience in consumer subscriptions or freemium monetization, including pricing, packaging, conversion, and retention, plus meaningful experience in product-led growth or ad-supported experiences. Must understand how these business models affect one another.
- Strong judgment about learner engagement and growth quality, with ability to evaluate cohorts, markets, and acquisition or engagement loops for their potential to create lasting customer value and sustainable revenue.
- Enough technical and commercial fluency in payments to lead a specialist PM, evaluate payment-funnel opportunities, and guide platform and partner decisions with Engineering and Finance.
- Excellent analytical and experimental judgment, comfortable with cohort analysis, lifetime value, funnel economics, and A/B testing, with ability to identify misleading wins caused by cannibalization, seasonality, or measurement gaps.
- A record of building effective organizations: hiring and developing talent, designing team responsibilities, coaching autonomous leaders, and planning for future management and capability needs.
- The ability to influence executives and cross-functional partners, resolve difficult priority conflicts, and communicate decisions clearly, taking responsibility for outcomes across the full portfolio.
BONUS EXPERIENCE:
- Experience growing both advertising and subscription revenue within the same consumer product.
- Experience scaling products internationally, including localization, market-specific pricing, and local payment methods.
- Experience in education or another consumer business with strong seasonal patterns, or applying behavioral insights to improve activation and retention.
