Coinbase is seeking a Security Operations Specialist to join its Security Operations team, defending the platform and customers against sophisticated attackers worldwide. The role focuses on frontline incident response, detection engineering, and automation to protect billions in digital assets while scaling security for the next billion crypto users.
Key responsibilities include owning second-line triage and response for security alerts, managing incidents through resolution, and driving post-incident improvements. You will build and maintain runbooks for repeatable response patterns, then define and implement automation to eliminate manual toil. The role requires partnering with teams across Security Operations to develop monitoring strategies informed by attacker investigation findings, and driving security monitoring and incident response for emerging Web3 product launches.
You will strengthen team capabilities by mentoring peers, sharing knowledge, and participating in 24/7 rotational coverage across time zones.
Required experience includes 3+ years of hands-on security operations including incident response, alert triage, and network/host forensics across cloud, SaaS, and container environments. You must demonstrate the ability to identify detection gaps and build coverage across diverse log sources (cloud platforms, SaaS applications, container orchestration, M&A integrations). Proficiency in scripting automation workflows using Python, Bash, or equivalent is essential to reduce manual investigation and response time.
Working knowledge of networking fundamentals and operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS) is required to analyze host and network-level artifacts. Experience with SIEM platforms and threat intelligence tooling at scale, including alert tuning and improving signal-to-noise ratios, is critical. The role also values responsible use of generative AI, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
