Axle Energy is building software infrastructure for the decarbonised energy system. The company controls hundreds of thousands of energy assets and moves gigawatt-hours of electrons by optimizing vehicle charging, heating systems, and home batteries to shift energy usage to times when electricity is cheap and green. Backed by Energize Capital and Accel, Axle operates at speed in a legacy industry while growing rapidly to meet customer demand.
As a Solutions Engineer, you will build integrations and technical infrastructure enabling customers to connect distributed energy devices, orchestrate them, and participate in electricity markets. This is a generalist role spanning core software engineering, customer implementation, and solution design.
Key responsibilities include:
- Forming deep understanding of Axle's domain, platform, and customers' technical challenges to execute at speed
- Building and maintaining integrations with customer systems, distributed energy devices, and third-party platforms
- Working closely with customers to troubleshoot technical issues, support implementations, and design scalable solutions
- Steering customers toward optimal launch plans and user experiences
- Collaborating with the Product team to translate customer feedback into product improvements
- Taking ownership of outcomes and quality of delivered solutions
- Managing time flexibly to adapt to changing scope and deadlines
You will operate in a deliberately flat organizational structure with fewer layers, faster decisions, and more ownership. You'll spend time talking to customers, gathering user feedback, and working with market operators while collaborating with Product on scalable engineering solutions.
The tech stack includes Python and React for frontend, Docker for deployment, GCP for cloud infrastructure, and aggressive use of AI tools (Claude Code). The role is based in London with a dog-friendly office around Farringdon, requiring 2-3 days per week in-office for hybrid collaboration.
Qualifications and Requirements:
The posting does not explicitly state years of experience or formal education requirements. However, the role expects proficiency in software engineering fundamentals, experience with integrations and APIs, and comfort working across full-stack challenges (backend, frontend, DevOps). Familiarity with Python, React, Docker, or GCP is valuable. Domain knowledge in energy, distributed systems, or IoT is not required but would be advantageous. The ideal candidate is self-directed, comfortable with ambiguity, and motivated by climate impact.
