Code Metal is the leader in automated software engineering using AI with formal verification. The company works with customers including the U.S. Air Force, L3Harris, RTX, and Toshiba to modernize legacy code, optimize performance, and move prototypes to production. Founded in 2023 with offices in Boston and San Francisco, Code Metal is backed by Accel, Salesforce Ventures, B Capital, and others. The Solutions Architect role sits at the intersection of customer needs, technical strategy, and growth. You will shape ambiguous opportunities into credible system architectures and executable plans, leading technical discovery, defining solution direction and success criteria, and aligning customer and internal teams before and throughout proof-of-concept execution. Key responsibilities include: - Lead technical discovery with customers to identify mission/business problems, system constraints, decision criteria, and Code Metal's role in the solution - Define candidate system architectures and evaluate alternatives through analysis, trade studies, feasibility assessments, and technical spikes - Translate ambiguous problems into credible technical approaches, system concepts, success criteria, and proposal content - Own the technical shape of proofs of concept: scope work, define interfaces and success criteria, make key architectural decisions, and guide Solutions Engineers through execution - Design evaluations and PoCs that expose Code Metal's product differentiators - Work across growth, Solutions Engineering, Forward Deployed Engineering, product, core engineering, and research to align customer commitments with capabilities and roadmap You should be an engineering leader who enjoys turning loosely defined opportunities into real systems. You are technically curious, can quickly explore unfamiliar domains, identify important constraints, and synthesize viable architectures. You combine strong technical judgment with hands-on depth to challenge assumptions and guide execution. You can context switch between topics, customers, and workstreams effectively. Travel to customer sites is estimated at 20%-40%. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of experience leading technical discovery with customers and shaping successful solution architectures, evaluations, or proofs of concept - Strong technical background in computer science, engineering, physics, or related field - Ability to quickly learn about unfamiliar domains and synthesize new technical information - Strong systems thinking, tradeoff analysis, and problem decomposition skills - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to lead architecture discussions and develop clear technical proposals and statements of work - Self-starter with ability to operate independently - Willingness to travel to customer sites as needed (20%-40% travel) GREAT TO HAVE: - Experience architecting complex systems spanning software, hardware, interfaces, and operational constraints - Broad cross-domain software experience in C/C++, Rust, Python, Verilog/VHDL, MATLAB, CUDA/OpenCL - Real-world edge computing or embedded experience where software, hardware, and physical systems intersect - Experience with U.S. Government programs or dual-use technologies - Active U.S. security clearance (Secret or Top Secret), or eligibility to obtain one This role is open at Senior, Staff, or Principal level.
