Kard is building commerce media infrastructure connecting financial institutions, platforms, and merchants through data and merchant-funded rewards. As Software Engineering Manager, Data, you will lead a 12-person multidisciplinary team spanning data engineering, analytics engineering, data science, machine learning engineering, and data support.
Reporting to the Director of Data & Platform, you'll have significant autonomy to shape the team, set technical direction, and determine investment priorities across platform development, product integration, automation, and stakeholder support. This is a technical management role where you won't necessarily write production code daily, but you'll evaluate architecture, review code and technical designs, guide implementation decisions, and contribute directly when valuable.
Key responsibilities include leading and developing a multidisciplinary data team; setting technical direction for Kard's data platform to improve scalability, reliability, and maintainability; increasing automation and self-service capabilities; partnering with Engineering and Product to integrate data, analytics, and ML into products; ensuring go-to-market teams have timely, accurate, actionable data; establishing clear priorities and ownership across platform investments, product work, analytical needs, and operational support; guiding architectural decisions across data pipelines, analytics systems, production models, and data services; and building a healthy, accountable team through clear expectations, feedback, career development, and strong collaboration.
You should have experience managing technical teams across data disciplines, technical depth to assess system designs and provide credible guidance, working fluency with modern data platforms, data modeling, pipelines, orchestration, analytics systems, ML lifecycles, cloud infrastructure, and production practices. A track record of improving technical platforms, automating processes, and creating scalable systems is essential. Experience managing teams balancing platform work, product development, stakeholder requests, and operational responsibilities is important, as is strong judgment about building reusable capabilities versus solving immediate business needs.
Bonus experience includes fintech, payments, card-linked offers, loyalty, or transaction-intensive products; operating production ML systems; high-volume batch and real-time data systems; and familiarity with Databricks, dbt, AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform. U.S. core business hours availability and willingness to travel for company meetings required.
