As Software Engineering Director for Multimodal AI Products, you will lead a core engineering team building next-generation multimodal AI products and features that serve both buyers and sellers on the G2 marketplace. Your primary focus (80% of time) is hands-on product development: you'll contribute across the full software stack to deliver agent-driven user journeys to production, design and build features leveraging frontier multimodal models (image and audio capabilities), and apply software engineering principles to create observable, maintainable, scalable solutions. You'll validate solutions using evals and tracing to ensure content quality is measured and monitored through CI and production metrics. You'll also drive product definition by ideating, prototyping, and collaborating with stakeholders to arrive at well-rounded, deliverable solutions that advance organizational goals. You'll partner with product owners to identify what technology enables and what creates implementation challenges, bringing that perspective into scoping and prioritization.
The remaining 20% of your time focuses on leadership: you'll facilitate the growth and mentorship of your core engineering team and serve as a source of technical leadership and subject matter expertise on multimodal AI systems.
The role emphasizes agentic engineering techniques and agent-first ways of working. You'll enhance G2's content generation systems to leverage advancements in multimodal agents and AI models' image and audio capabilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Requirements:
- 10+ years of professional programming experience in backend and application environments
- 2+ years of direct experience managing engineers
- Expert-level proficiency in Python or Typescript/Javascript; strong working knowledge of modern backend & web application frameworks (FastAPI, Node, React, Rails)
- Direct experience applying multimodal (audio, image) AI in content production or generation workflows
- Hands-on experience building AI and agent-powered features using frontier models from OpenAI, Google, and others beyond text generation, including multimodal (image, audio) generation
- Direct experience refining product requirements in collaboration with product owners
- Regular use of coding agent harnesses (Claude Code, Codex, Opencode, Pi) as part of daily software development workflow
- BS/BA degree in related field
Desirable Experience:
- Direct experience building interactive realtime multimodal agents acting over long sessions & context windows
- Experience with dynamic video content generation fusing motion graphics and audio
