Salary: USD 220,000 - 265,000 / annual
Descript is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own meaningful product outcomes across its video editing platform. You'll work on one of four core teams: Editor (simplifying video workflows and integrating AI creative tools), Growth & Monetization (onboarding, activation, pricing, and billing), Media (project management, effects, rendering, and export), or AI (developing and scaling Underlord, an agentic co-editor).
In this role, you'll take problems from rough idea through design, implementation, launch, measurement, and maintenance. You'll shape product direction alongside Product and Design teams, proposing better interactions and identifying simpler paths to user outcomes. You'll build full-stack systems spanning TypeScript/React frontends, Node.js backends, Temporal workflows, and third-party integrations. You'll also strengthen team practices around experimentation, observability, testing, and release velocity.
You'll mentor teammates, provide architectural direction, and raise technical ambition through thoughtful code review and clear communication. The role emphasizes end-to-end ownership: you'll form hypotheses, instrument your work, release incrementally, and measure impact rigorously.
Required: 5+ years shipping customer-facing products with measurable impact; ability to leverage AI agents to multiply your impact; end-to-end feature ownership from planning through analytics; comfort orienting in unfamiliar systems; attention to how software feels; skill navigating product and technical complexity; rigorous validation through testing and evidence.
Helpful experience includes: editor, media, creative tools, or payment systems; TypeScript, React, Node.js, SQL, Temporal; building with AI agents or media-generation models; experimentation and product analytics; video/graphics/audio knowledge.
