Harmattan AI is a next-generation defense prime building autonomous and scalable defense systems. Following a $200M Series B at a $1.4B valuation, the company is expanding teams to deliver mission-critical systems to allied forces.
As a Software Engineer in Mission Execution, you will build the software infrastructure that translates mission plans into reliable, real-time behavior across fleets of autonomous robots and multi-agent systems. You'll own the mission execution backbone—the systems that guide, orchestrate, and coordinate autonomous agents in the field.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building mission execution infrastructure that converts planned missions into reliable, real-time behavior across autonomous system fleets
- Developing scalable backend services and APIs for mission guidance, orchestration, agent communication, and execution
- Establishing and maintaining high quality standards through CI/CD pipelines, testing, code review, observability, and release discipline
- Writing production-grade C++ and Python for real-time, resource-constrained environments
- Partnering with Mission Planning and product teams to ensure algorithms integrate cleanly, are thoroughly tested, and deployable in field conditions
- Analyzing logs and telemetry from tests and live operations to identify failure modes and drive systemic improvements
The role demands rigor, ownership, and execution in a demanding environment where reliability and predictability are mission-critical.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, or related field; or equivalent practical experience
- Technical skills: Strong coding proficiency in C++ and Python; solid software engineering fundamentals (system design, concurrency, testing, debugging)
- Experience: Demonstrated track record building and shipping production software, ideally with distributed or real-time systems
- Nice to have: Robotics, embedded software, or video game development experience (game engines, simulation, deterministic replay, tooling); aerospace or defense background; familiarity with simulation frameworks
