Renaissance is a global leader in pre-K–12 education technology, with solutions used in over one-third of US schools and more than 100 countries. As a Software Engineer III, you will build features across the discovery layer—the search and browse experiences teachers use to find lessons, the curation tools admins use to govern district content, and the services that unify four separate products into one cohesive library. You will work with high independence to ensure problems and solutions are appropriately scoped. This role is pioneering Renaissance's S3 model of software development, focusing on multi-agent orchestration where specialized agents coordinate on complete features. Engineers shift from managing individual tasks to designing systems that produce the work. Key responsibilities include: - Building features across the discovery layer and connected products (search/browse for teachers, curation/governance for admins, exploration for students) - Developing backend services leveraging relational databases, non-relational datastores, message queuing, and cloud infrastructure against typed contracts - Building and testing frontend experiences in TypeScript and React, contract-tested against the backend, with accessibility as a core requirement - Writing tests and instrumentation alongside features—unit, component, and contract tests, plus traces, metrics, and logs for system debuggability Required qualifications: - Professional experience building and shipping production web applications or services - Backend services development experience with relational databases; comfort with non-relational datastores, message queuing, and/or cloud infrastructure - Genuine excitement about crafting an AI-first software development lifecycle; viewing formal constraint encoding for AI workflows as an interesting problem, not a necessary evil - Working knowledge of cloud operations—deploying across environments, reading dashboards, troubleshooting application problems in cloud environments - Effective communication and collaboration skills with distributed engineering, product, and design teams
