Saildrone is a maritime defense company and global leader in autonomous unmanned surface vehicles (USVs). The company operates combat-deployed systems supporting national security and force projection worldwide, with manufacturing and R&D headquarters in Alameda, CA, and deployment hubs in Europe and the Middle East.
As a Software Engineer focused on Geometric Computer Vision, you will develop the vision systems that enable Saildrone's autonomous vehicles to understand their environment and estimate motion, depth, 3D structure, and spatial relationships. Your work will span camera calibration, multi-camera systems, visual tracking, geometric estimation, and real-world deployment on autonomous vehicles.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop computer vision algorithms for camera motion estimation, vehicle pose determination, depth perception, 3D structure recovery, and spatial relationship understanding
- Design and implement intrinsic, extrinsic, and multi-camera calibration systems
- Build multi-camera and temporal vision systems using correspondence, feature tracking, stereo vision, and related geometric techniques
- Apply geometric estimation and optimization methods to noisy real-world imagery from maritime environments
- Integrate vision algorithms with cameras and other vehicle sensors, managing coordinate frames and sensor synchronization
- Validate and debug vision systems on autonomous vehicles across algorithms, calibration, hardware, and software layers
- Continuously improve vision-system performance and reliability under challenging real-world maritime conditions
QUALIFICATIONS (Required):
- Strong C++ software engineering skills
- Hands-on experience developing computer vision or geometric vision algorithms
- Experience calibrating and integrating cameras on robotic, autonomous, or other physical systems
- Strong understanding of 3D geometry, camera models, coordinate transformations, and estimation or optimization techniques
- Experience working with real sensor data and integrating algorithms into production systems
QUALIFICATIONS (Nice to Have):
- Stereo vision, visual odometry, SLAM, structure from motion, or multi-view geometry experience
- Embedded or edge computing experience
