Neo4j is hiring a Software Engineer for Developer Experience to join the newly formed Aura DevEx team. Aura is Neo4j's managed cloud offering that brings graph database power to the cloud. The DevEx team is an enabling function that improves onboarding and usability of the Aura platform for internal and external engineers. In this role, you will make Aura the place where Neo4j engineers can build effectively. You'll work across the organization to reduce friction for teams developing in Aura, whether they're database engineers, service owners, or integration specialists. Key responsibilities include: **Help teams develop in Aura:** Meet Neo4j Database engineers where they are and reduce Aura-specific overhead for building, testing, and running changes in dev environments. Improve workflows, documentation, and tooling tailored to different engineer personas—those focused on the database, a single service, or integrations. **Support incubation and onboarding:** Help teams become productive in Aura without DevEx owning their product. Partner with the Software Delivery team to ensure the "paved road" stays clear, and work with platform teams to empower engineers to extend capabilities. **Contribute to AI domain for Aura development:** Maintain and evolve skill files and agent instructions (AGENTS.md, Cursor/Claude skills) so AI coding agents can operate in Aura with the same constraints as humans. Evaluate and provide feedback on AI workflows—quality, cost, failure modes, and time savings. Help teams adopt AI in development without reinventing the stack. **Treat DevEx as a product:** Work closely with internal engineers to identify pain points. Make the experience positive for newcomers to Aura. Observe how people and agents use the skills, docs, and tools you ship, and iterate based on evidence. The role blends software engineering, developer experience, and practical AI—not full-time platform engineering. You'll give feedback to platform teams to ensure the underlying infrastructure is intuitive, pleasant, and extensible.
