Neo4j is seeking a Software Engineer to join the newly formed Aura DevEx team, an enabling function for the Aura SaaS and cloud platform. The role focuses on improving and simplifying the onboarding and developer experience for engineers building on the Aura platform.
You will work to make Aura an accessible and productive environment for all Neo4j engineers—from database specialists to platform newcomers. Key responsibilities include reducing Aura-specific overhead for teams developing changes, improving workflows, documentation, and tooling, and supporting team onboarding and incubation without owning their products.
A significant portion of the role involves the AI domain for Aura development. You'll maintain and evolve skill files and agent instructions (AGENTS.md, Cursor/Claude skills, etc.) so AI coding agents can operate within Aura's constraints. You'll evaluate AI workflows for quality, cost, and actual time savings, and help teams adopt AI in development without duplicating infrastructure.
The role treats developer experience as a product. You'll collaborate closely with internal engineers to identify pain points, observe how people and AI agents use the tools and documentation you ship, and iterate based on evidence. You'll partner with the Software Delivery team to ensure the paved road remains effective and work with platform teams to ensure engineers can extend the platform to meet their needs.
This is a blend of software engineering, developer experience, and practical AI—not full-time platform engineering. You'll bridge the gap between Neo4j's database development and the cloud environment, making Aura the place where the rest of Neo4j can build effectively.
