Salary: USD 114,000 - 142,000 / annual
New Relic's Access & Governance Platform team builds and operates the authentication and authorization systems that underpin the entire platform. This role focuses on building reliable, scalable services that answer two critical questions for every request: who is this user, and what are they allowed to do?
On the authentication side, you'll work on login, session and token management, and enterprise SSO integrations (SAML, OIDC, OAuth2) for customers integrating New Relic with their own identity providers. On the authorization side, you'll build the roles, capabilities, and grants model that every other team at New Relic checks before granting user access.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and operating authentication services including SSO, OAuth2/OIDC token issuance, session lifecycle management, SCIM-based user provisioning, and fraud defense
- Creating APIs and internal tooling for other engineering teams to manage and troubleshoot user data and access controls
- Collaborating with product management, design, and engineering teams on complex use cases
- Participating in on-call rotations to triage production incidents, investigate access and authentication issues, and develop runbooks
- Investigating and fixing reliability, data-integrity, and security issues in production systems
Required qualifications:
- 1+ years building and shipping reliable software services
- Backend language expertise (Ruby or Java preferred)
- Experience with data models and managing data at scale, including SQL and relational databases
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
Bonus experience includes IAM protocols (SCIM, OAuth2, SAML, OIDC), GraphQL APIs, observability platforms, public cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP), and container technologies (Kubernetes, Docker).
