Salary: GBP 75,000 - 200,000 / annual

Axle Energy is building software infrastructure for the decarbonized energy system, controlling vehicle charging, heating systems, and home batteries across hundreds of thousands of energy assets. As a Software Engineer, you'll build core infrastructure for connecting to distributed energy devices, orchestrating them, and enabling participation in electricity markets. This is a generalist role spanning product engineering, DevOps, and data engineering. You'll form deep understanding of the energy domain and business to execute independently at speed, focusing on outcomes rather than process. You'll own end-to-end problems, talk directly with clients, gather user feedback, and work closely with market operators. The company operates a deliberately flat structure with fewer layers, faster decisions, and more ownership for everyone. You'll manage your own time and adapt to changing scope and deadlines, delivering high-impact solutions efficiently. Tech stack: Python and React for frontend, Docker for deployment consistency, GCP cloud infrastructure, and aggressive use of AI tools (Claude Code) to enhance workflows. Compensation includes meaningful equity alongside competitive salary (£75k–£200k base + equity), with a deliberate 1:1 median pay ratio between founders and team.
