Despegar, part of the Prosus ecosystem and a leader in travel technology across Latin America for over 25 years, is seeking a Software Developer III to join its Authentication & Security team.
In this role, you will design, build, and scale applications that power authentication and authorization platforms serving millions of users. You will own solutions end-to-end—from architectural design through production operation—and participate in critical technical decisions focused on scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and building distributed services based on protocols such as OAuth2, OpenID Connect, and LDAP
- Writing clean, efficient, and maintainable backend code following software engineering best practices
- Identifying performance bottlenecks in high-traffic systems and proposing sustainable solutions
- Actively participating in code reviews to drive continuous team improvement
- Monitoring application health and pipeline performance to ensure availability and reliability
- Collaborating closely with infrastructure, product, and security teams to deliver integrated solutions
- Evaluating and adopting new tools and technologies that add business value
- Taking ownership of technical decisions and their outcomes

REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of experience developing scalable backend solutions
- Proven experience with Java or another object-oriented programming language
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and resource optimization
- Experience working with high-traffic, high-impact applications
- Strong orientation toward efficiency—both technical and infrastructure cost optimization
- Conscious and efficient use of AI for software analysis and development
