GoCardless is a global bank payment company processing $130bn+ in payments annually across 30+ countries. The Platform Engineering team is a unified, globally distributed group located in London, Riga, and Lisbon, working to empower all engineering teams to build, release, run, and scale their products.
As a Site Reliability Engineer, you'll balance strategic project delivery with operational excellence. Your responsibilities include:
**Project Delivery**: Building new platform components from initial design through deployment, working with infrastructure-as-code and cloud technologies.
**Operational Support**: Ensuring system health and stability through on-call rotations, incident management, and rapid response to production issues.
**Business as Usual**: Continuous maintenance, improvements, compliance support, and audits.
You'll work with a modern tech stack including Python, Ruby, and Golang for automation; Terraform and Atlantis for infrastructure-as-code; AWS and GCP for cloud infrastructure; Kubernetes and GKE for container orchestration; GitHub Actions and ArgoCD for CI/CD; and Grafana, Prometheus, and Datadog for monitoring.
The role emphasizes building maintainable automation, eliminating operational toil through software development skills, ensuring system security, and collaborating closely with software engineers and data scientists on technical architecture decisions. You'll have ongoing opportunities to develop your skills in a cloud-first engineering environment with people who share your values.
Required experience includes proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Ruby, Golang), infrastructure-as-code tooling (Terraform), cloud computing (AWS or GCP), containerized applications, CI/CD tooling, and monitoring solutions. Experience with Kubernetes, Terragrunt, or Atlantis is advantageous. You should understand DevOps and Agile principles, have awareness of database high availability and performance optimization, and possess excellent English fluency and teamwork skills.
