Kong is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer 2 to ensure the rock-solid reliability, scalability, and performance of Kong's critical managed services, particularly the Managed Gateways platform. This role is pivotal in maintaining customer trust and positioning Kong as a leader in the Agentic Era through unparalleled product stability.
Key responsibilities include implementing and maintaining robust automation for deploying and operating Kong's Managed Gateways across various cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure). You will monitor system health, performance, and uptime with a target of 99.99% availability for core infrastructure. The role involves resolving complex production incidents efficiently, participating in on-call rotations to maintain service continuity, and building resilient tools and systems that enhance overall reliability and operational efficiency.
You will contribute proactively to preventing technical debt, ensuring sustainable and scalable operations as Kong grows. Close collaboration with engineering teams is essential to design, review, and implement resilient and highly scalable services.
Required qualifications include 2+ years of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles and practices in production environments. You must be proficient in at least one of Golang or Python for automation, tooling, and infrastructure as code. Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and major cloud platforms is mandatory. Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog is required. A solid understanding of networking concepts, distributed systems, and API gateways is essential.
The ideal candidate demonstrates ownership of reliability and performance of critical production systems with strong accountability. You should drive urgent resolution of issues with a bias for action and minimize customer impact. Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams is critical.
Bonus qualifications include experience with Kong Gateway or other API management platforms, relevant cloud certifications (AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Kubernetes Administrator), and active contributions to open-source projects or developer communities.
