Valar Atomics is a Series A nuclear energy company focused on making clean, high-temperature nuclear power scalable for industrial, hydrogen, and advanced manufacturing applications. The company is building factory-made, rapidly deployable advanced nuclear systems with a pilot plant in Orangeville, Utah.
The Site Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager will lead all safety, health, and environmental programs at the site level, reporting to the Regulations & Safety organization. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for designing, implementing, and managing comprehensive EHS initiatives while ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (DOE, OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, and local fire codes).
Key responsibilities include: developing and maintaining EHS policies, procedures, and manuals (HAZCOM, Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Industrial Hygiene); conducting facility inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments; leading incident investigations and root cause analysis; designing and delivering safety training for employees, contractors, and visitors; promoting a proactive safety culture through coaching and behavior-based initiatives; managing hazardous waste storage and disposal (RCRA compliance); and overseeing contractor safety practices.
Success metrics include reducing total recordable incident rates (TRIR) within 6–12 months, achieving 100% compliance in internal and external audits, cultivating strong employee engagement in safety reporting, and building credibility directly with front-line workers.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, or related field; minimum 5–7 years of EHS leadership experience in manufacturing or industrial environments; extensive knowledge of OSHA (1910/1926) and EPA regulations; and professional certification (CSP, ASP, CHMM, or equivalent) highly desirable. Excellent communication skills and ability to translate complex regulatory requirements for both workers and management are essential.
