Bright Machines is an AI-enabled manufacturer specializing in data center infrastructure production. The company uses proprietary AI-based robotics and software to assemble hardware for hyperscalers and OEMs, addressing the surge in AI computing demand while supporting U.S. manufacturing reshoring initiatives.
As Site Automation Engineer, you will own the performance and reliability of robotic assembly systems deployed at a major customer site. You serve as the primary technical interface between the customer, manufacturing partners, field teams, and Bright Machines' remote experts. Using live data, diagnostic tools, and hands-on troubleshooting, you will resolve hardware and software issues, drive continuous improvement, and ensure high system uptime.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing multiple robotic assembly systems deployed to a major tech customer
- Interacting with customer and manufacturing partners regarding equipment performance
- Collecting customer feedback and sharing insights for continuous improvement and product roadmap development
- Serving as the primary interface between remote technical experts, field service engineers, and customer production leads
- Using troubleshooting skills, live data, and diagnostic tools to assess hardware and software anomalies and determine corrective actions
- Maintaining status reports at various levels of detail
- Educating and training customers on device operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair
- Providing excellent customer service and addressing customer concerns
You will work in an automation and robotics environment, troubleshooting complex electro-mechanical systems and diagnosing failures with minimal supervision. Strong communication, customer focus, and technical depth are essential.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years in a customer-facing technical role
- Experience in an automation and robotics environment
- Associate's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Bachelor's preferred)
- Automation, robotics, and PLC experience (FANUC IR + FANUC DCS knowledge preferred; Beckhoff PLC preferred)
- Experience with vision systems for inspection and point of interest interpolation (MATROX and COGNEX preferred)
- Experience with industrial labeling applications (HERMES and ZEBRA printers preferred)
- Understanding of complex programming (nested recipes)
- Confidence with electro-mechanical systems and diagnosing complex failure modes
- Technical documentation experience (electrical, pneumatic, 2D/3D mechanical)
- Basic 3D CAD software skills (SolidWorks preferred)
- Ability to repair and maintain mechanical systems
- Self-starter with ability to work productively with minimal supervision
- Calm, collected demeanor and commitment to customer service
- Strong reporting, data collection, and analysis skills
NICE-TO-HAVE:
- Experience in electronics manufacturing environment
- Familiarity with code, command line interfaces, and LAN navigation (production-style coding not required)
