Saronic Technologies is seeking a Ship Build Strategist to define and own the build strategy for autonomous surface vessels. This role is central to translating approved designs into efficient, buildable production sequences through the shipyard.
Key responsibilities include developing block/zone breakdowns, assembly and erection sequences, and stage-of-construction plans from keel to delivery. The strategist will create detailed work breakdown structures (WBS), unit/zone boundaries, and work packages aligned to actual production workflows. You will develop and maintain the master integrated production schedule, translating designs into buildable sequences that maximize pre-outfitting and pre-commissioning while minimizing rework and rehandling.
The role bridges engineering, production, and planning functions. You will integrate build strategy with production control to ensure sequence, capacity, and facility constraints (ways, cranes, shops, bays) align. You'll feed producibility and design-for-production requirements back to engineering to influence the design baseline for efficient construction. Collaboration with manufacturing engineering and optimization teams will align methods, tooling, robotics, and work-instruction packaging to the build sequence.
Additional responsibilities include identifying build risks and constraints, facilitating build-strategy input to daily/weekly/monthly production planning reviews, supporting launch and sea trials, and establishing build-strategy standards and playbooks across programs. You will maintain build-strategy data within ERP, MES, and project management systems, and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on throughput, cycle time, and delivery predictability.
Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine/Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, Construction, or Project Management (or equivalent experience), plus 5+ years in shipbuilding, production engineering, build planning, industrial construction, or project controls. You must have experience with modular/block construction, build sequencing, and stage-of-construction planning, with strong understanding of production workflows in shipyard or manufacturing environments. Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation, strong analytical and organizational skills, and excellent cross-functional communication are essential.
Preferred qualifications include familiarity with ERP/MES systems, aluminum vessel construction, naval/defense programs, critical path scheduling, lean methods, automation/robotics, resource planning, class/regulatory frameworks (ABS, USCG), and relevant certifications (PMP, PMI-SP, AACE, Lean). Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing or rapid production scaling is valued.
