Plotly is seeking a Senior or Staff Software Engineer to own product components and drive features from design through production on the Dash Enterprise platform. Dash Enterprise is a commercial platform that enables organizations to deploy, scale, secure, and govern data applications within their own Kubernetes clusters, on-premises or in private cloud environments.
In this hands-on role, you will have end-to-end ownership of platform components and features, working closely with product and technical leads. The work centers on solving hard problems in distributed systems, reliability, and operability—particularly challenging because the platform runs customer applications inside their own Kubernetes clusters, environments you do not directly control.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, architecting, and implementing product features end-to-end from conception through production
- Building and maintaining integrations that allow the platform to work natively with customer infrastructure and services
- Instrumenting the platform with observability (tracing, metrics, logging) and converting customer telemetry into product improvements
- Constructing software that installs, upgrades, and runs reliably in customer-managed Kubernetes clusters
- Strengthening platform reliability and availability for large, highly-restricted customers
- Collaborating with product and technical leads on what to build and how
- Mentoring team members and raising engineering standards across the organization
Plotly actively adopts the latest AI coding tools and encourages engineers to experiment with new tools and processes while maintaining the engineering rigor and quality customers depend on.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven production experience: you have designed and managed large production systems and understand firsthand what it takes to build and maintain them properly
- Deep fundamentals and range: comfortable applying expertise from one domain to unfamiliar problems rather than being narrowly specialized
- Platform expertise: experience with Kubernetes, distributed systems, and microservice orchestration
- Hands-on distributed systems debugging: tracing, metrics, performance analysis, and observability
- Networking knowledge: familiarity with how networking behaves inside Kubernetes
- Security fundamentals: experience resolving vulnerabilities and CVEs, using scanners and vulnerability management tooling
- Strong application-level engineering: solid system design principles, experience building user-facing production applications for enterprise customers, fluency in two or three programming languages (primary languages are Go and TypeScript)
- Self-managed/on-prem experience: you have shipped enterprise software that runs in environments you do not operate
- Hands-on builder mentality: you want deep technical impact and to remain hands-on
NICE-TO-HAVES:
- Experience with hosting platforms, PaaS, or internal developer platforms (especially running arbitrary or untrusted user code safely)
- Temporal or other durable-workflow engines
- Identity and SSO integration
- Container build systems
- Integrating AI/LLMs into production and enterprise systems
- Python or Dash ecosystems
