Business Insider's video team is seeking a senior video editor to create original video content for the flagship series "So Expensive," which explores why products, services, and industries are costly and examines potential solutions to affordability challenges.
In this role, you'll be responsible for editing episodes from conception through final delivery, working across the full production lifecycle: shooting as needed, sourcing footage, editing, and post-production. You'll collaborate closely with producers, animators, and managers to shape compelling narratives into engaging YouTube videos. Your work will involve making critical creative decisions about pacing, visuals, sound design, and graphics to maximize viewer engagement and impact.
Key responsibilities include:
- Editing So Expensive episodes while meeting tight production deadlines (multiple documentary edits per quarter)
- Crafting episodes for maximum audience retention and platform performance
- Collaborating with producers to refine narrative structure and strengthen story impact
- Helping maintain efficient, scalable editing workflows and best practices across the team
- Contributing creative ideas that elevate storytelling quality and journalistic standards
You should have excellent organizational skills, proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere required; After Effects a plus), and proven experience in documentary or journalistic video production. Strong storytelling judgment, excellent communication and collaboration skills, and commitment to accuracy and fairness are essential. Experience shooting with professional Canon and Sony cameras and sourcing compelling visual material is valued.
The role is based in New York with a three-day-per-week in-office requirement. This position is union-eligible.
