MISUMI Americas, a division of MISUMI Group, is launching a new U.S.-based manufacturing platform designed to serve frontier-technology industries including humanoid robotics, aerospace, agricultural technology, and healthcare. The platform combines precision machining, final assembly/test/packaging (FATP), supply chain orchestration, and engineering services.
You will be the founding SVP responsible for building this operation from the ground up in Austin, Texas. Starting with an initial facility in 2026, you will lead the transition to a purpose-built campus opening in 2027, scaling the workforce from a founding team to 200+ people as production volume ramps toward several thousand units annually at full scale. This is a founding executive role with a clear career path: you are expected to be promoted to President & CEO in 2027 as the operation transitions from single-customer pilot to multi-customer scale-up, contingent on hitting facility, customer, and team-building milestones.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading facility commissioning and scale-up, hitting capital-plan milestones
- Owning the relationship with founding customers and managing production ramps
- Building precision machining, FATP, and quality systems (FAIR, SPC, DFM) to frontier-technology standards
- Executing a multi-year staffing ramp combining direct hiring, local apprenticeship/technical-college pipelines, and nearshore capacity
- Establishing governance, security, and workplace controls for U.S. government-adjacent manufacturing, including export-control registration and cybersecurity certification
- Owning the organization's operating P&L and reporting to the Board and MISUMI Americas leadership
- Building the leadership bench, recruiting manufacturing and engineering leaders from Austin's advanced-manufacturing corridor
You will maintain approximately 75% on-site presence in Austin, with up to 50% travel overall covering facility time, MISUMI hub visits, customer sites, and Board meetings. You report directly to the Board of Directors with dotted-line reporting to Go-to-Market/Business Development leadership.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 15+ years in manufacturing operations leadership with direct P&L ownership of a plant, business unit, or manufacturing company
- Proven track record standing up new manufacturing facilities from the ground up (greenfield or brownfield), including commissioning, hiring ramp, and production qualification
- Deep fluency in precision manufacturing: CNC machining, FATP, new product introduction (NPI), and design-for-manufacturability (DFM)
- Experience serving demanding, fast-iterating hardware customers in robotics, aerospace, defense, or similarly exacting sectors (strongly preferred)
- Familiarity with U.S. export-control and government-contracting frameworks (ITAR, CMMC) is a strong plus; willingness to build and operate within those frameworks is required
- Comfortable with board-level visibility and reporting, including to an international (Japan-based) parent company
- Builder's mindset — energized by founding-role ambiguity, not just running established operations
- U.S. citizenship required due to ITAR and export-control framework involvement
