eleQtron develops full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. We are seeking a Senior UI/UX Engineer to own the end-to-end user experience across two product surfaces: a customer-facing cloud platform for submitting quantum programs and exploring results, and an internal operator interface for running, monitoring, and calibrating quantum machines in the lab.
This is a design-led role requiring hands-on ownership from concept through shipped product. You will set the design direction for both surfaces while maintaining coherence as a unified product family, and you will build the production-ready component library that both applications are assembled from.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning design direction for both customer-facing and internal operator interfaces, ensuring visual and interaction consistency
- Conducting user research: interviewing operators and physicists, observing real calibration workflows in the lab, and translating insights into design decisions
- Producing wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for both surfaces
- Building and maintaining a design system as production-ready, tested components in code (React/TypeScript)
- Making dense telemetry and calibration data legible through effective visualization patterns
- Running usability tests on implemented interfaces and maintaining quality standards between design intent and delivered product
- Collaborating with backend and platform engineers to shape APIs from the user's perspective
- Setting standards for accessibility, usability, and visual consistency across the engineering team
You will work in a seed-stage deep-tech environment where academic research meets commercial applications, collaborating with domain experts (physicists, operators, engineers) to solve complex, ambiguous problems.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional experience in product or interaction design with a portfolio of shipped digital products
- Proficiency in TypeScript and React, including component testing and documentation (e.g., Storybook); ability to build your own designs as reusable production components
- Mastery of the full design toolkit: research, information architecture, interaction design, prototyping, visual design; Figma as daily driver
- Demonstrated experience designing for complex, data-heavy, or expert-user products (not consumer apps)
- Track record of building or substantially owning a design system
- Experience planning and running usability testing and acting on findings
- Ability to collaborate effectively with domain experts and turn ambiguous problems into clear designs
- Strong adaptability and quick learning mindset
- Good proficiency in English (written and spoken)
Bonus qualifications:
- Experience with real-time data in the browser (WebSockets, streaming telemetry)
- Background in scientific, industrial, or laboratory control software
- Applied knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG)
- Experience mentoring designers or leading design in cross-functional teams
- Prior exposure to quantum computing or other deep-tech domains
