LiveKit is building the infrastructure layer for voice-driven computing, powering voice AI applications for OpenAI, xAI, Salesforce, Coursera, Spotify, and thousands of others. The company facilitates billions of calls annually and was founded in 2021.
This Design Engineer role focuses on engineering LiveKit's brand identity into a living web system. Unlike typical "design engineer" positions that are front-end implementation roles, this position owns the full craft of livekit.com and the brand's technical expression across the web.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the craft and direction of livekit.com, pushing boundaries in motion, interaction, and performance for a developer-facing marketing site
- Engineering the new brand identity into reusable systems: components, motion patterns, and tooling that enable the team to ship on-brand work quickly
- Building launch pages, product pages, and campaign surfaces that maintain an exceptionally high bar without compromising speed
- Treating performance as a core feature—delivering rich experiences that remain fast, with real performance budgets
- Partnering daily with brand designers, marketers, and the design engineering team to translate ambitious ideas into shipped work
You'll thrive in this role if you obsess over crafting fast, reliable, practical code; are known as the go-to person for tough technical problems; work hard and ship fast; can explain complex technical concepts clearly; and are a fast learner picking up new languages and tools.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional front-end engineer with a strong portfolio of production web work, obsessive about detail (motion, interaction, performance), fluent in translating design intent into reusable systems, fast and self-directed, and a strong collaborator with designers who elevates their ideas.
Nice-to-have qualifications include experience at developer-tools, API, or infrastructure companies; WebGL, shaders, or creative-coding skills; design system contributions; experience optimizing rich sites for Core Web Vitals; and a genuine passion for studying website interactions.
