Snorkel AI is seeking a Senior Technical Recruiter specializing in Research Science to identify, source, and engage world-class PhD-level Research Scientists for their growing organization. The role is based in either San Francisco or New York on a hybrid basis.
You will develop and execute creative recruiting strategies to attract PhD-level research talent in a highly competitive market, owning the full sourcing pipeline from academia, top research labs, and PhD/postdoc programs. You'll track and analyze recruiting metrics across the funnel to continuously improve speed, efficiency, and outcomes. A core responsibility is delivering best-in-class candidate experience at every touchpoint, particularly tailored to researchers weighing academic versus industry paths.
You will partner closely with Research leadership and hiring managers to understand specific research areas, publication expectations, and technical requirements for each role. You'll advise on hiring strategy and challenge the team toward more creative approaches to attracting research talent. The role includes staying attuned to trends in the AI/ML research talent market—compensation, publication trends, conference activity, and researcher movement—and sharing insights with People leadership.
Networking and relationship building are central: you'll represent Snorkel at top AI/ML conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL) and within the broader academic and research community to establish a strong long-term pipeline. You'll coordinate interviews including research talks, technical deep dives, and panel discussions, deliver timely feedback, and ensure clear communication between candidates and hiring teams. Finally, you'll partner with People and Research teams to ensure smooth onboarding and provide visa/immigration support where applicable.
Minimum qualifications include 8+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience with strong focus on PhD-level Research Scientists or applied research roles in AI/ML, ideally within technology startups. You need demonstrated success in high-growth, fast-paced startup environments, strong familiarity with the San Francisco Bay Area academic and research landscape, and fluency in evaluating research talent through publication history, conference presence, and academic pedigree. Proven ability to source and attract passive candidates—including current PhD students, postdocs, and researchers at competing labs—and build diverse, high-quality pipelines is essential. Proficiency with modern recruiting tools and platforms is required.
