Salary: USD 66,000 - 91,000 / annual
Cloudflare is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join the Application Security team, responsible for the company's fast-growing security product portfolio including WAF, Page Shield, Web Asset Management, and API Shield. You will work at internet scale, designing and building systems that handle up to 100 million requests per second for 1 million customers.
In this role, you will design systems and write code following industry best practices, review RFCs and technical specifications, and help mentor other engineers through knowledge sharing. You'll deploy and maintain live software-based services at scale, taking regular on-call shifts as part of the team rotation. You'll stay current with emerging security risks to web applications and provide input on how these impact Cloudflare's products. You'll also collaborate with engineers and product managers across teams to communicate roadmaps and execute on priorities.
Cloudflare's Application Security team works with custom components built in an engineering-driven, pragmatic way using modern ecosystems like Go and Rust. The codebase is well-tested and documented, allowing you to focus on high-impact work rather than firefighting. You'll be joining a high-profile part of the business with strong career growth opportunities.
The role is hybrid, requiring two days in office. Available locations include Amsterdam, Brussels, Lisbon, London, Munich, Paris, Sweden, and Switzerland.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience working hands-on as a software developer
- Proficiency with at least one of Go or Rust
- Exposure to DevOps tooling such as Kubernetes, Salt, Kafka, or Systemd
- Strong Linux/Unix fundamentals
- Experience working with distributed systems at scale
- Experience with cybersecurity is preferred but not essential
- Persistent, can-do attitude with genuine willingness to assume good faith in others
- Empathetic and emotionally intelligent approach to teamwork and culture
