Salary: USD 145,000 - 220,000 / annual

Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, serving large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military. With five satellites on orbit and a backlog exceeding $1 billion in commercial contracts, the company is scaling its manufacturing operations. As a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer, you will drive the vendor base toward zero-defect manufacturing and scale Astranis production at supplier facilities. The Supplier Quality team owns supplier identification, qualification, ongoing development, and corrective action. This role is critical to expanding manufacturing capability while ensuring the extreme reliability required for world-class satellite production. Key responsibilities include: - Define product specifications (raw materials, testing, inspection, GD&T/CMM, workmanship) in collaboration with Product Engineering - Establish and execute vendor qualification processes, including onsite audits, technical assessments, and qualification builds - Lead Design For Manufacturing (DFM) reviews and serve as the primary manufacturing and quality contact for key vendors - Establish phase gates at suppliers for new product introduction (Critical Design Review, Manufacturing Readiness Review) - Develop Incoming Quality Control (IQC) inspection procedures for thermal, electromechanical assemblies, RF passives, and metal-machined components; review supplier documentation - Spearhead root cause analysis and corrective actions with vendors; qualify dispositions (rework, repair, rebuild) The role involves technical communication with internal and external teams, frequent travel to supplier sites (40%+ of the time), and on-the-spot critical decision-making. You will work extended hours as needed to meet critical deadlines. Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Material Science, Physics, or similar technical field - 6+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, or supply chain engineering - Background in GD&T, mechanical and thermal engineering, and manufacturing processes (CNC, forging, welding, assembly) - Ability to work extended hours and travel 40%+ of the time as needed Bonus qualifications: - Experience in aerospace manufacturing or automotive manufacturing (AS9100, IATF 16949, Quality Management Systems) - Statistical tools expertise (Cpk & Ppk, SPC, DOE, GR&R) - Electronics manufacturing experience (PCBA and harnesses: IPC 600, IPC 610, IPC 620) Note: U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or refugee/asylee status required to comply with U.S. government space technology export regulations.
