Isar Aerospace, a fast-growing space launch company, is seeking a Senior Structures Analysis Engineer to lead structural analysis efforts for their launch vehicle development program. You will be responsible for comprehensive structural analysis of primary and secondary rocket structures, from concept trading through design validation and manufacturing deviation assessment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed stress analysis of aerospace structures and components using classical hand calculations and advanced finite element methods (FEM), primarily for CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced polymer) structures
- Identify failure scenarios and collaborate with design engineers to review and optimize structural designs
- Define applicable load cases, addressing thermal and quasi-static loads from random vibrations
- Analyze manufacturing non-conformities and provide solutions
- Develop test plans and support physical testing of components to verify sizing assumptions and qualify hardware
- Prepare comprehensive stress analysis reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders
- Improve standards and toolchain for structural verification
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers within the team
- Define analysis standards and review colleagues' results to identify action points
You will play a major role in improving the overall analysis and verification workflow while guiding design decisions and pushing performance and reliability forward.
Requirements:
- Degree in Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical, Computational Mechanics, or related field
- At least 8 years of experience analyzing aerospace structures
- Profound knowledge in classical hand-calculations and advanced FE modeling of aerospace structures (Hypermesh, Optistruct, etc.)
- Self-motivated, collaborative, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
- High degree of independence and confidence in assessing and trading design risks
- Strong engineering intuition regarding load paths and failure mechanisms
- Holistic perspective on structure development
- Fluent English
Bonus Skills:
- Practical experience in the space sector, preferably in launch vehicle development
- CAD experience, preferably Siemens NX
- Understanding of composite structures' behavior over wide temperature ranges
- Material qualification and composite manufacturing experience
- Experience with carbon fiber winding and draping (design or hands-on)
- Knowledge of quality standards, specifications, and procedures for CFRP components
- German language skills
